A Mommy Makeover Tailored for You

We recognize that every woman in Denver and Lone Tree is unique, and you’ll have your own needs and goals after pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Fortunately, the mommy makeover is not one procedure. It is, instead, a catch-all term for a set of cosmetic surgeries that can be performed at the same time. That means we can customize your mommy makeover for your specific situation. We can also offer these procedures to you as a combination of separate procedures, to allow you to time your surgeries to fit your lifestyle.

For women who find that they have weakened abdominal muscles or loose, excess skin after their pregnancies, a tummy tuck is often an excellent option. That can be combined with liposuction if you also have stubborn deposits of fat that won’t respond to diet and exercise.

And with a breast augmentation we can complete the mommy makeover by giving you fuller, firmer, larger breasts that restore your attractive shape and profile from before pregnancy. Sometimes a breast lift is necessary to achieve the pre-pregnancy shape you desire, or perhaps a breast lift and an implant together—either way, you and your surgeon will discuss which option will best suit your individual needs.

What Concerns Can a Mommy Makeover Address?

At Park Meadows Cosmetic Surgery, we can use liposuction, tummy tuck or breast augmentation as part of a mommy makeover to help our Denver and Lone Tree patients address:

  • Sagging breasts
  • Loose or separated abdominal muscles
  • Excess, flabby skin
  • Stubborn fat deposits on the abdomen, thighs, arms or buttocks

We are proud to offer our guests the option of scar revision and scar therapy sheets. These adhesive sheets stabilize and hydrate the scar area as it heals so that its final appearance is as minimal as possible. Some women also opt for a surgical revision of their scars followed by treatment with scar therapy. Call us today to learn more about pricing and scar removal options.

While the procedures that comprise a mommy makeover are commonly performed and have impressive safety records, the decision to undergo surgery is always a serious one.

Who Is a Candidate for a Mommy Makeover?

Mommy makeover surgery is appropriate for most women looking to restore their figures after pregnancy and childbirth. Our board-certified plastic surgeons can determine if it is right for you.

You may be an ideal candidate for mommy makeover surgery if you:

  • Are currently in good medical health
  • Are within approximately 25 pounds of your ideal body weight
  • Do not smoke or are willing to quit before your procedure
  • Have realistic expectations and a positive outlook

It is best to schedule this surgery after you are done having kids. Future pregnancies can undo your results. You will also want to avoid having surgery too soon. Wait at least six months after you stop breastfeeding so that your body has time to recover and reach its post-baby baseline.

Are there any risks to Mommy Makeover surgery?

All surgeries carry risks. A mommy makeover is a combination of procedures so has risks associated with each. There are also risks associated with extra time under anesthesia. However, these are managed by setting limits on surgical times and through constant monitoring during surgery. Though uncommon, patients are made aware of the potential for complications such as:

  • Bleeding
  • Infection
  • Slow healing
  • Poor scarring
  • Asymmetry
  • Fluid or blood accumulation beneath the skin
  • Blood clots

Surgical complications are rare and the risk of them can be reduced by following pre- post-surgical instructions carefully.

How long does a Mommy Makeover surgery usually take?

The duration of mommy makeover surgery is determined by the type and number of procedures planned. At the consultation visit, the various procedures that may be appropriate are discussed and confirmed based on their relevance to the desired outcome. One of the benefits of the mommy makeover is that it optimizes the time patients spend in the operating room. Bundling procedures together may result in a surgical time of 4 to 6 hours, sometimes even less.

Are Mommy Makeovers painful?

Yes and no. First, no. The procedure is not painful. Patients receive general anesthesia for their mommy makeover, and this halts pain sensations from the body to the brain for the duration of the procedure. Then, yes, patients can expect some discomfort after their anesthesia wears off. Prescription pain medication helps reduce the soreness and tenderness that are common after surgical procedures. So, would we say a mommy makeover is painful? Perhaps “uncomfortable” is more accurate.

What is recovery like from a Mommy Makeover?

Mommy makeover recovery is expected to take about 6 weeks in total. Patients are typically ready to leave the surgery center a few hours after their procedure is complete. It is necessary to arrange for a loved one to drive the patient home. Someone should also stay with the patient for 24 to 48 hours. After surgery, appropriate compression garments are applied and patients may receive prescription pain medication before they leave. Medication should be picked up before the day of surgery so it can be taken as directed once the patient is home. Medication is often needed only for the first week of recovery, after which comfort may be managed with an over-the-counter pain reliever.

  • Activities are limited after a mommy makeover, so patients may need to arrange for in-home help with chores and childcare.
  • For approximately 6 weeks, patients are restricted from lifting, pushing, pulling, and carrying objects that weigh more than 5 pounds.
  • If abdominoplasty is performed, it can take 2 weeks to be able to stand fully upright. We typically ask that patients do not drive for the first two weeks following a tummy tuck.
  • Patients should avoid stomach sleeping. Depending on the procedures performed, it may be most comfortable to sleep in a recliner for up to a week.
  • Bruising and swelling can last up to 8 weeks. Soreness and tenderness improve over several weeks.
  • To reduce the risk of complications, patients must follow their post-operative instructions carefully, avoiding activities like swimming and using hot tubs.
  • Most normal activities may resume approximately 6 weeks after the mommy makeover.

Typically, how much weight can you lose from a mommy makeover?

If liposuction is performed as part of the mommy makeover process, it is possible to notice 6 to 8 pounds of fat loss. However, it must be understood that no part of a mommy makeover is intended for weight loss. The primary goal of the customized series of procedures is to sculpt the body into better proportions.

Is there anything I should avoid after Mommy makeover surgery?

Post-surgical activity restrictions may vary based on the procedures performed. Generally, patients are advised to take it easy for at least a week or two after their surgery. It is necessary to rest as much as the body dictates because everyone is different in the amount of energy expended toward healing. After a mommy makeover, the patient can benefit greatly from having extra sets of hands around the house. In addition to taking 2 weeks off work, it is necessary to curb involvement in the day-to-day activities at home, including driving. For several days, the patient should avoid pushing, pulling, lifting, and carrying. Chores can wait. Mothering can take on more of an emotional support role than a physical one. Someone else can cook, clean, and drive until full recovery has been achieved.

Patients should not rush to return to their normal activity level after a mommy makeover. Rushing doesn’t work. In fact, it can do more harm and not only increase the risk of complications but elongate the time it takes to completely heal.

How Can I Prepare for the Mommy Makeover Procedure?

Not only will preparing for your mommy makeover set you up for an easier recovery, but it will also minimize your risk of experiencing complications. Here are basic pre-operative guidelines.

In preparation for your mommy makeover, you may be asked to:

  • Stop smoking
  • Discontinue certain medications and supplements
  • Get a medical evaluation or lab testing
  • Fill your prescriptions
  • Report any sign of a cold or infection

Keep in mind that you will need to arrange for a friend or family member to drive you home after surgery. You may also want to line up help with things such as childcare and household chores.

What Can I Expect From My Mommy Makeover Results?

The procedures commonly included in a mommy makeover, such as a tummy tuck, breast augmentation, and liposuction, immediately enhance and refine your figure during surgery. However, your results will not be visible right away due to post-operative swelling and bruising.

It can take up to six months to see the final results of your mommy makeover procedure. At that point, your results should last for many years to come, provided you maintain a stable weight.
