What Size Breast Implants Should I Get?

If you’re considering breast augmentation, one of the biggest choices you will face is what size implants to get. Rest assured that our board-certified plastic surgeons will help find your ideal size during your consultation. Below are several tips that will make the process easier.

Forget About Cup Size

You may have an ideal cup size in mind for your breast augmentation. This way of thinking is natural because that is how you buy your bras and how you tend to think about breast size. However, cup sizes vary significantly between bra companies and are not a very accurate measurement.

For that reason, breast implants are not measured by cup size, but by volume. The unit of measurement is a cubic centimeter, often shortened to cc. Sizes can range from 100 ccs or less, to upwards of 700 ccs. While these units are unfamiliar to most people, it’s all about what aligns with your goals and body type.

Picture the Results You Want

Before your consultation, visualize the results that you hope to achieve through breast augmentation. Do you want to restore breast volume that you lost due to childbirth or age? Do you want a slightly augmented look? Or, are you looking for a significant increase in fullness?

These questions can help narrow down your options for implant size. You can also look at before and after photos. When looking at the gallery, keep in mind that individualized factors such as breast measurement, implant placement, age, weight, and height influence the results.

Consider Your Lifestyle

If you’re very active, it’s essential to think about how implants may affect your fitness routine. Some women pursue breast augmentation because their workout efforts have eliminated most of their body fat, including in their breasts.

Many women exercise normally and comfortably after breast augmentation. However, very large breast implants tend to move more than smaller ones during high-impact activities like running or kickboxing.

Some women may find this distracting or uncomfortable. Our surgeons will help you find an implant size that suits your lifestyle.

Anticipate the Future

While it’s important to achieve the breasts that you want today, it’s also important to think about how your chest will look over time. Some women who get very large implants may desire to downsize as they get older.

This can be done through a procedure known as implant exchange. However, it’s possible to avoid that additional surgery by considering your current and future goals.

Keep Implant Profile in Mind

Size isn’t the only thing that matters when it comes to breast implants. Implants have different widths at the base, which plays a significant role in your breast augmentation results.

Implants with different base widths, or profiles, will produce different results even if they have the same volume. For example, an implant with a very narrow base means that most of the volume will project outwards. Conversely, an implant with a very wide base will have a flatter profile and less projection.

Implants with a moderate profile tend to look the most natural. However, the width of your chest must also be considered when picking the ideal profile.

Try Different Options Using Implant Sizers

These choices may sound overwhelming, but an in-office consultation simplifies the decision-making process. Our plastic surgeons have experience helping women find the ideal size for their goals, body type, and lifestyle. During your visit, you will have the opportunity to explore your options with implant sizers.

Implant sizers are one of the easiest ways to see what size is right for you. Sizers are essentially implants that you can put in a bra to see what different volumes look like under clothing.

Lastly, keep in mind that there is no perfect breast implant size. There is a range that will work for your goals and natural breast contour.
