Update: Lawsuits filed because of Gynecomastia and Risperdal Use

Risperdal and Gynecomastia Lawsuits

Four more men have filed lawsuits against the makers of the antipsychotic prescription medication Risperdal, according to a news release from healio.com. These men and others say that treatment with the drug during adolescence led to gynecomastia, a devastating condition for men in which they develop excess breast tissue. The lawsuits allege that Risperdal was a defective drug, and that the boys and their parents were not properly informed of the risks of gynecomastia associated with Risperdal use.

As experienced and board-certified plastic surgeons, Dr. Jeremy Williams and Dr. Christopher Williams have seen first-hand how men suffer when they have gynecomastia. Gynecomastia surgery, also called male breast reduction, may be a good option for you if:

  • You are unhappy with having the appearance of excess breast tissue
  • The appearance of breast tissue causes you to feel self-conscious and less confident
  • You have sought a diagnosis of and treatment for your gynecomastia

Although the link between Risperdal and gynecomastia will continue to be investigated, men across the country continue to experience this condition, many without having ever taken Risperdal. There are also other causes of excess tissue in the chest, as can be discussed with your surgeon. With gynecomastia surgery, you can once again enjoy the confidence that comes with a more masculine chest appearance.
