Liposuction effectively removes isolated deposits of fat and slims down the body areas that harbor them. Cosmetic surgical procedures always involve some period of time in which you must rest and recover. After liposuction, you will experience swelling as a natural result of surgery. Although each person’s experience is unique, you can generally expect the following timeline for swelling to go away:
2 to 3 weeks: During the initial phase of healing, you should see a reduction in bruising and swelling. You’ll start to have a good idea of what your final results will look like.
3 to 6 months: In this phase, the majority of remaining swelling will go down.
6 months to a year: Some amount of minimal, virtually undetectable swelling may continue to subside, and your final results will take shape.
You can minimize your swelling by following our guidelines for downtime after your procedure. By avoiding certain activities and taking care of yourself, your recovery should be more comfortable and successful. It is incredibly important that you wear the garment we provide for you after surgery to minimize that swelling.Â
