TRANSCRIPT: When we perform liposuction, we use small cannulas to remove fat from the subcutaneous tissues of the patient. When we remove fat, that leaves small holes where that fat used to be, so those holes can either heal down or they can fill up with fluid. That fluid is called a seroma, so in order to help our patients heal, every liposuction patient gets a specially designed garment based on where their liposuction was done. Those garments are tight. They squeeze and compress the patient, and they help reduce swelling. They help reduce bruising, and they help that subcutaneous tissue heal back to its normal position in a nice, smooth contour. So, post-operative garments are very important in the post-operative setting for liposuction specifically.
