Gynecomastia is a distressing physical condition that impacts a significant number of men. However, many of the men who suffer from it mistakenly believe they are simply overweight. In fact, gynecomastia is the result of too much glandular tissue in the pectoral region of the chest.

Gynecomastia SymptomsÂ
Men with gynecomastia most commonly complain about a swollen breast appearance. Instead of having a relatively flat-looking chest, your chest may seem to be more rounded or pointy.Â
Often, the excess tissue associated with gynecomastia can pull down on your male breasts. That can cause issues such as visible sagging, excess skin, and low nipple position.
Gynecomastia can also change the way that your nipples look. Your nipples may be puffy, and your areolas (the area surrounding the nipple) may stretch out and get bigger than they were.Â
Sometimes men also experience breast pain or tenderness. These sensations may be felt beneath the nipple, particularly if a lump or deposit of fatty tissue has developed there. The lump may get larger, affect one or both breasts, and may grow unevenly on opposite breasts.

How is Gynecomastia Diagnosed?
Some of the symptoms of gynecomastia can also indicate other underlying conditions. A physical examination and evaluation of your medical records can help you tell the difference. In some cases, additional tests are needed to ensure that your breast swelling is gynecomastia.
