When Implants May Be Enough
If the main difference is volume, an implant can add fullness to the smaller breast and improve overall balance. The two breasts do not necessarily need the same implant size or identical surgical planning. Your chest width, existing breast tissue, skin quality, proportions, and desired size all matter when choosing an implant and placement.
For mild to moderate size differences, augmentation alone may provide the correction you are looking for. Our breast asymmetry correction page also explains why breast size is only one part of the evaluation.
When Shape and Position Need Attention, Too
An implant adds volume, but it cannot solve every source of unevenness. If one breast sits noticeably lower or has more sagging, a breast lift may be needed to improve its position. In other cases, reducing the larger breast or combining techniques can create better proportion.
Tuberous breast characteristics can add another layer to the decision. One side may have a tighter lower breast, different fold position, or a more constricted shape than the other. For patients with a small amount of drooping, our surgeons may also consider a dual-plane augmentation technique. More significant sagging generally calls for a different approach.
Better Balance Starts With the Right Diagnosis
Perfectly identical breasts are not a realistic surgical goal. The aim is to understand which differences matter most and choose a plan that improves balance without doing more surgery than necessary. Reviewing our broader breast surgery options can help you see why augmentation, lifting, reduction, or a combination may be recommended for different anatomy.
