The First Two Days After Breast Augmentation

In the first 48 hours after the procedure, you may experience:

  • Swelling
  • Discomfort
  • Soreness

Each patient is different, and the initial stages of your recovery may be different from what is listed above. If you are at all concerned during this time, please call our office right away. We will assist you however we can during your recovery from breast augmentation.

During the first few days after breast augmentation, you should focus on healing and resting. You should get up and walk around during this time, but not engage in strenuous activities or heavy lifting. Your plastic surgeon will discuss with you specific activities to avoid.

Two Weeks After Breast Augmentation

About two to three weeks after breast augmentation, you should notice a substantial decrease in the amount of swelling, although some degree of swelling and possible discomfort is to be expected during this time. At this point, your plastic surgeon will probably clear you for a higher level of activity, such as brisk walking. Strenuous exercise and heavy lifting should still be avoided.

Around this time we will clear you to return to work. Most types of jobs are fine to return to at this point in your recovery, although if your job is physically demanding we may suggest taking more time off.

Six Weeks After Breast Augmentation

After six weeks, you will probably be ready to resume more intensive physical activity and exercise. The finalized results of your breast augmentation should be apparent, because at this point most of the swelling should have subsided. Very small degrees of swelling may continue to subside over the next few months.
