According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, arm lift procedures have risen more than 4000 percent since 2000. There is not necessarily a reason for this significant increase in demand, but some people have credited the rise to the toned arms of today's leading female celebrities. Perhaps women's value of their arm appearance has simply changed over time. Whatever the cause, more women than ever before seem interested in achieving arms that are in better proportion to the rest of their body.
After significant weight loss or because of aging, the skin around the upper arm can lose elasticity and sag. In 2012, more than 15,000 women got arm lifts, compared to about 300 women in 2000, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.
An arm lift can address:
- Sagging, loose upper arm skin
- Poor overall shape and contour of the upper arm
- Fatty deposits in the upper arm
If you are dissatisfied with excess fat in the upper arms but are not experiencing much skin sag, then liposuction may be adequate to achieve the toned arms you want. But sagging, loose skin requires an arm lift to eliminate because this loose skin will not tighten with exercise or other methods.
