As part of your liposuction procedure, you will need to take some time off from work, exercise, social activities and other demanding tasks. As is the case with any surgical procedure, your body will need time to rest and heal after liposuction.
Everyone responds to liposuction a little differently, and the specific body area treated with liposuction may influence your recovery, but a typical liposuction recovery usually includes:
- Staying home from work for about 4 to 7 days. If your career involves a lot of heavy lifting and is physically demanding, then we may recommend staying home even longer.
- Restricting your physical activity to walks during the first week. After about 7 days you can resume moderate activity. After about 3 weeks, you can begin incorporating more strenuous exercise.
- Swelling and bruising can persist for several weeks, but should improve as your recovery progresses.
Once you have healed from liposuction and the swelling has dissipated, you should notice a slimmer, defined body area where liposuction was performed. Our plastic surgeons will be with you every step of the way, making sure you have the information you need to recover after liposuction.
