During this season of giving, we would like to highlight another one of our favorite charitable organizations: Mountain Child.

For years at Park Meadows Cosmetic Surgery, we have supported and participated in the efforts of Mountain Child to raise awareness, resources, and financial aid to benefit the impoverished children who live in the Himalayas. Dr. Jeremy Williams has embarked on medical missions to the region and Park Meadows Cosmetic Surgery has even sponsored local Denver events, such as the Mountain Child Run for Hope 5K to raise money and awareness for the children of Nepal.

The Need for Mountain Child

In exploratory missions conducted by Mountain Child, they have found that children in the Himalayas face severe medical, social, and environmental challenges that no child should have to face in our modern world.

  • One in five children will die before their first birthday
  • 24,000 children die before age five each year in Nepal
  • Children are at high risk to become victims of human trafficking
  • 15,000 to 20,000 children (average age 12) are trafficked in Nepal each year
  • Children are often forced into child labor
  • Children lack educational and occupational opportunities

Mountain Child focuses on helping children in the most remote regions of the Himalayas on Nepal’s northern border with Tibet. Through appropriate and sustainable developmental work, Mountain Child hopes to provide empowerment, opportunity, and hope for the children in the region and end the cycle of suffering for the children there.

Mountain Child’s Action

Mountain Child works on five core issues that are at the root of suffering for the children of the Himalayas: health, human trafficking, education, child labor, and the environment.

Through an extensive network throughout the region, Mountain Child works to implement sustainable solutions to provide relief for children in each of these five areas. From legal enforcement to bring human traffickers to justice to vocational training to empower the next generation to continue developing their own communities, Mountain Child is committed to providing Himalayan children with the tools they need to thrive as individuals and within their communities.
