Plastic surgery continues to increase in popularity in the US. According to the most recent statistics from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, 2013 was the fourth consecutive year that saw growth in cosmetic surgery. A total of 15.1 million cosmetic procedures were performed last year, a figure which includes both surgical and minimally invasive procedures.
Here are the increases for the specific procedures:
- Breast augmentation up 1 percent
- Breast reconstruction up 4 percent
- Eyelid surgery up 6 percent
- Facelift up 6 percent
- Butt augmentation with fat grafting up 16 percent
The ASPS believes part of the reason for the steady growth may be due to new devices and technology that appeared in 2013, including the FDA approval of two types of gummy bear silicone implants and a new type of hyaluronic acid filler.
Overall, cosmetic surgery was up 2 percent from 2012. That figure includes both surgical procedures like breast augmentation and non-surgical treatments like BOTOX®Cosmetic. With the new technologies and devices available to patients, patients have more options than ever before to reach their cosmetic goals.
