As part of considering whether to undergo abdominoplasty (tummy tuck), most people want to know what things to expect during the recovery following the surgery. Like all surgical procedures, abdominoplasty does require you to take some time to rest and heal. While each person's recovery will be somewhat unique, the staff and experienced plastic surgeons at Park Meadows Cosmetic Surgery will make sure you are equipped with complete aftercare instructions and that you know what to expect in the hours, days and weeks after your tummy tuck.
Generally, after a tummy tuck you can expect to see swelling and bruising in the abdominal area. You will be wearing bandages over the incision. After 1-2 weeks, a substantial amount of swelling will have gone down. You will probably need to stay home from work for at least a week, and do not plan to do any strenuous activity during this time, just walking. After 4-6 weeks, you should feel completely back to normal and ready to resume full physical activities if cleared by your plastic surgeon.
