7 Ways To Help Boost Your Self Esteem

1. Do something you've been putting off.
From the simplest task of writing a letter, to something you've been contemplating for some time like a facelift, taking control and getting it done can have a huge impact on your self-esteem. It will make you feel good to finally be able to place a checkmark by that lingering goal.

2. Make time to do something you are good at.
Getting caught in the day-to-day chores of life can bring down anyone's mood. Make sure you dedicate some time every week to do something you enjoy, and are good at. From painting, to dancing, to writing, or even golfing; whatever you choose make sure its something that requires your full attention.

3. Learn how to relax completely.
If you are feeling low or anxious about something, the first thing to do is to stop and relax. Feeling anxious or low is often accompanied by stress. When you concentrate on relaxing, your feelings will begin to disappear. Choose to learn a wonderful skill that will continue to help you throughout your life, such as meditation, yoga or Tai Chi.

4. Congratulate yourself on things you've already accomplished.
Look back at your life; what have you completed in your life? Don't look for large items; instead, look for the little things in life. Passing a test, losing 5 pounds after the holidays, and or signing up for a new class are all reasons of celebration.

5. Establish goals you can realistically achieve.
What separates a doable goal from one that will never be achieved is the ability to see yourself accomplishing it. Looking like you did when you were 20 is not possible at the age of 50. But you can have a goal of losing 10 pounds, or to have a Botox treatment twice a year to reduce the fine lines around your eyes.

6. Rely on your own opinions.
Your goals and values have seen you through this far. Don't do things based on the beliefs of others. Instead, choose things that will make you feel better about yourself, and have a more positive attitude towards life.

7. Spend time with nurturing people.
Take a look at the people you spend time with. Do they have a positive outlook on life? Do they have a positive lifestyle? Spending time with positive people will motivate you to take charge of your life, and turn it into a happy, successful experience.

Dr. Jeremy Z. Williams has received full board certification by the American Board of Plastic Surgery in November 2006. Dr. Williams joins a prestigious group of surgeons recognized for their knowledge and talent in the art of plastic surgery.

"Having recently reached a new milestone in my plastic surgery career, I thought I would take the time to share the experience with our patients.

Public awareness of board certification has peaked in recent years due to a combination of media coverage and public relations efforts put forth by various medical specialties. The board certification process in plastic surgery is an arduous one. Being elevated to Diplomate status with The American Board of Plastic Surgery, Inc. is the culmination of over 11 years of prerequisite training and experience. The first portion of the examination process is a one day written exam that can be taken after completion of an accredited plastic surgery residency program. After I completed my seven year plastic surgery residency at The Johns Hopkins Hospital I took and passed the written examination.

For the next year all of my operative cases were collected and reviewed by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, Inc. The board reviewed my cases and ultimately selected several cases to be examined during the oral examination. In addition, numerous "unknown" cases were also prepared by the board to examine candidates taking the oral examination. The oral examination is a rigorous three day process that is conducted in Phoenix, AZ each November. The failure rate for the oral examination hovers in the 20% range each year.

After successfully completing my oral examination I was elevated to Diplomate status with The American Board of Plastic Surgery, Inc. This process has closed a long and exciting journey for my family and me. Becoming a "board certified" plastic surgeon is a privilege that I hold in great esteem. However, board certification should not be the endpoint. Coming from an academic background in plastic surgery at Johns Hopkins I believe a commitment to lifelong learning and contributing to new advances in plastic surgery is the charge that I carry with me into the future."
